Hiatal hernia is cause due to old age and heavy smoking

Hiatal hernia is a condition in which a portion of the stomach protrudes upward into the chest through the sheet of muscle that separates the chest from the abdomen. Hiatal hernia are most cause are obestity, old age and heavy smoking. This cause may be the result of the weaking of the supporting tissue. Hiatal hernias are very common especially in people over 50 years old which cause reflux of gastric acid from the stomach into the esophagus.

The symptoms of hiatal hernia are Chest pain, Belching, having difficulty in swallowing and heartburn and will cause you more pain when you are bending over immediately after your meals or lying down. Most of treatment of hiatal hernia are Barium swallow x-ray or Esophagogastroduodenoscopy (EGD). To avoid Hiatal hernia ones has to avoid having large and heavy meals, stop smoking, reduce weight and not lying down or bending over immediately after each meal.
