Smokers are likely to get hiatal hernia

Weaking of the supporting tissue in our abdomen may be a one of the cause of hiatal hernia. Increasing in age specially in people over 50 years old and adults who smoke are also known to have higher risk of hiatal hernia. This condition may cause reflux (backflow) of gastric acid from the stomach into the esophagus.

Symptoms of hiatal Hernia are heartburn epecially when you are bending or lying down, difficulty in swallowing, complaining of chest pain and belching. A hiatal hernia by itself rarely causes symptoms -- pain and discomfort are usually due to the reflux of gastric acid, air, or bile. Reflux happens more easily in the presence of hiatal hernia, though a hiatal hernia is not the only cause of reflux. To reduce the symptoms people are advised to avoild heavy meals, Avoild bending or lying down after each meals and lastly stop smoking.
